NH's harvest

I don't know what it is about apple picking, but it enlivens me. Maybe it's because a good majority of my life was involving harvesting a fall crop....cranberries. The foliage vibrance and crisp air really invigorate the soul. Maybe it's the coming yummy dessert that I lovingly bake for hours upon our return from the orchard. Whatever it is, I just love it. And thankfully, the rest of the family does, too.

The boys run freely and wildly through the trees, laughing and even singing. There were so many apples on the trees that with every apple picked, about 4 would fall to the ground! I personally have never seen so many apples on the trees before. Maybe that is because we go later in the season, or maybe it's a lesser known orchard so fewer visitors...Either way, the boys really enjoy being out there, riding the tractor hay ride, eating the apples straight off the tree, and getting warm with the freshly pressed and just warmed apple cider.

So far, from our 15 lbs of apples, I've made apple brownies, french apple pie, apple cobbler, and apple tart. With Ammie and Bubba coming this weekend, we'll be returning to the orchard for more, just to be sure we have enough baked goods to last the winter:-) I can't wait!

Bon appetite!

CPG birthday #2

It's amazing that 2 years have passed since my baby boy was born. I still see him as that baby I held in my arms to drink in his sweetness. He is still sweet to the core. He loves to cuddle, has a soft spot for the dogs and is a gentle soul. Can there be such a thing as an angel with a stubborn streak? Hopefully, that will turn into perseverance and compassion in adulthood. But for now, what will the next year bring?

We were so lucky to have such a beautiful fall weekend, so the whole family took to the trail and water to enjoy the Mother Nature's paintings.

Current events 10/07

There is much coming down the pike in our lives this fall! Tomorrow we meet up with the LTG group for a playdate and some apple picking. The weather man says the sun will shine, so hopefully, there will be a good turn out. CCG is excited to see some old friends.
Hockey season has started again, not just Steve's league but also the UNH Men's Hockey broadcasts http://unhwildcats.com/index.cfm?id=8E4CB448-BE7E-7986-CC6368E1917C74DF and the Manchester Monarchs, so I expect to be shuffling schedules for the next few weeks, and months:-)

Strafford Wind Symphony has a Halloween themed concert at the end of the month! I am soooo excited about the music selection for this performance! We'll be playing some great pieces including a medley of Danny Elfman scores. It should be a very festive afternoon as the audience is encouraged to participate by coming in costume. The band will be:-) http://www.straffordwindsymphony.org/

CPG is celebrating birthday #2 next week! It's amazing how quickly 2 years fly by in what seems to be a blink of an eye...I still think of him as being a "baby", not a toddler. Although the invites are out, a game plan is still undecided for the party. CPG is a difficult one to figure out, as he spends so much time doing what his big brother does. I am not so sure of what his own interests are.
Until next time...
